“HTML5가 본격적으로 사용되기 전까지는 모바일기업애플리케이션플랫폼(MEAP)이 기업 모바일오피스(스마트워크) 구현을 위한 최선의 방식이라고 할 수 있습니다.”
가트너가 MEAP이라는 용어를 처음 만들어낸 것은 2008년의 일이다. 그 전에는 멀티채널 액세스 게이트웨이라는 개념을 내세웠다. 다양한 모바일 기기들(채널들)을 게이트웨이를 통해 지원하자는 것이니 MEAP과 기본 사상은 동일하다. 장 박사가 주도한 한국IBM의 SPoSA는 지난 2004년 정통부와 공동 수행한 ‘유비쿼터스 디바이스 협업 인프라스트럭처(코드명 셀라돈)’ 과제의 산물이다. 2004년에는 블랙베리나 아이폰이 보급되기 전이어서 PDA를 주 대상으로 했지만 2006년부터 블랙베리, 심비안이 서서히 보급되고 2008년 아이폰이 나오면서 SPoSA 개발 연구 역시 큰 변화를 맞이했다. “2004년 당시에는 윈도 모바일밖에 없었습니다. 국내에서 사용되는 모바일기기도 PDA가 전부였고요. 하지만 블랙베리에 이어 2008년 아이폰이 세계를 휩쓸면서 상황이 크게 달라졌습니다. 하지만 6개월 전만 해도 기업들은 아이폰이냐 안드로이드폰이냐, 단말기는 어디 것인지 선택하는 것이 기업 모바일오피스의 일반적인 구축 방식이었는데 지금은 상황이 완전히 달라졌습니다.” 현재 기업 컴퓨팅에서 가장 빠른 기술 발전과 보급 속도를 보이는 것 중 하나가 모바일이다. 모바일 애플리케이션을 일일이 개별적으로 개발하는 네이티브 앱 개발 방식으로는 개발 작업과 비용 문제로 특정 스마트폰 기기로 국한시키게 된다. 따라서 1기는 윈도 모바일과 옴니아, 2기의 경우 안드로이드와 갤럭시가 모바일오피스의 표준이었다면 현재 3기로 접어들고 있다. 3기 모바일오피스는 ‘표준이 없는 것이 정상’이다. 기업들에게 MEAP의 개념을 소개했을 때 큰 관심을 보인다는 것이 장 박사의 설명으로, 그 이유는 명료하다. ‘원소스 멀티유스’, 특히 멀티플랫폼에서의 멀티유스는 기업의 모바일오피스 환경 구현에서 요구되는 개발 작업을 크게 줄여줄 수 있고 스마트기기의 하드웨어나 운용체계(OS), 애플리케이션의 제한에서 벗어나게 해줄 수 있다. “원소스 멀티유스를 가능케 하는 최선의 기술은 HTML5입니다. 하지만 이 기술이 얼마나 빠르게 기업 컴퓨팅 환경에 적용될지는 알 수가 없습니다. 그 전의 단계로서 한국IBM은 MEAP을 제안하고 있습니다.” HTML5의 표준은 지난해 완성되었고 최근 애플이 HTML5로 만든 모바일 앱 데모를 자사 웹사이트에서 공개하기도 했다. 하지만 솔루션 사업자가 반영하고 기업에 적용되기까지 얼마나 많은 시간이 걸릴지 알 수 없다. MEAP 환경에서 기업 모바일오피스를 구현할 때 얻게 되는 혜택은 모바일 앱 작업의 간소화와 이기종 지원뿐 아니다. 장 박사는 “애플리케이션 개발의 주도권이 사용자인 기업에게 있다는 것”을 강조한다. 한국IBM의 SPoSA는 IBM 미들웨어인 웹스피어와 함께 구축된다. 현재로서는 IBM 미들웨어만 지원하고 있다. 국내 연구소에서 개발되었기 때문에 한국 실정에 잘 맞는다는 게 장점이긴 하지만 경쟁사 미들웨어를 지원하는 것은 본사 정책에 따라야 하기 때문이다. | ||||||||

한국IBM(대표 이휘성)은 기업들에게 모바일 도입 단계와 업무 영역에 따라 최적화된 모바일 환경을 구현해 주는 엔터프라이즈 모빌리티 서비스(Enterprise Mobility Service: EMS)를 선보인다고 24일 발표했다.
한 국IBM에 따르면 EMS는 모바일 도입에 필요한 전략 컨설팅에서부터 단말기 및 통합 플랫폼 제공, 모바일 구축·보안·운영 등 단계별 요건에 맞춘 서비스와 금융, 제조업, 사무 등 업무 영역별로 특화된 서비스를 제공한다. 기업들은 EMS를 통해 모바일 성숙도와 스마트워크, 모바일 고객 서비스, 새로운 성장 동력 육성 등 모바일 도입 목적에 따라 서비스를 선택적으로 활용해 효율적인 비즈니스 모빌리티를 구현할 수 있다고 회사측은 설명했다.
EMS는 모바일 도입 단계별로 ▲진단, 인프라 설계, 관리 계획을 제공하는 모바일 전략/컨설팅, ▲단말기 납품서비스, 교육 및 콜센터, 시스템 구축 및 관리에 이르는 모바일 비즈니스 영역을 지원하는 모바일 구축/운영서비스, ▲스마트폰 OS 별로 앱을 쉽게 개발하고 기존 시스템과 연동시켜주는 구축 모바일 플랫폼으로 구성된다.
구축 모바일 플랫폼은 앱 통합 개발 운영 체계인 SPoSA(Smartphone oriented Service Architecture)를 통해 안드로이드, 아이폰, 윈도폰 등 스마트폰 OS별 독립 개발 방식의 비효율성을 해소하고 향후 비즈니스 확장성을 극대화한다.
EMS는 ▲고객 업무 영역별로 스마트워크 환경을 구축하는 모바일 오피스 ▲제품 생산과 운송 관리 업무에서 정확한 정보를 적시에 제공해 생산성 향상을 도모하는 모바일 팩토리, ▲급변하는 금융 시장 환경에서 대고객 서비스와 모바일 오피스를 동일 플랫폼에서 구현하는 모바일 금융 서비스로 구성돼 있다.
한국IBM은 향후 모바일 마케팅, 모바일 헬스 케어, 모바일 교육 서비스 등으로 업무영역별 서비스를 계속 확대해나갈 계획이다.
한 국IBM의 김원종 GTS 대표는 "기업들이 모바일을 선택이 아닌 필수로 여기고 서둘러 도입하고 있지만 기술적 한계와 장기 운용에 제한적인 전략 때문에 어려움을 호소한다"며 "EMS는 고객 비즈니스에 유연하고 민첩한 모빌리티를 부여해 고객의 모바일 서비스를 성공으로 이끌 것이다"고 말했다.

사이베이스 인수
비록 사이베이스가 데이터베이스관리시스템(DBMS) 분야의 전통적 강자이지만, 이제는 독자 생존하기 어려운 상황에 이르렀기 때문에 인수되는 것이 마땅하다는 것이 참석자들의 공통된 의견이었습니다.
IBM, 오라클, MS 등 경쟁자들이 모두 통합 플랫폼을 제공하는 상황에서 사이베이스가 이들과 경쟁할 여력이 부족해 보였기 때문입니다.
당시 가능성 있는 업체로 언급된 회사 중 하나가 SAP였습니다.(또 다른 회사는 HP였습니다.)
그런데 오늘(한국시각) 실제로 SAP가 사이베이스를 인수한다는 발표가 나왔군요.
SAP가 사이베이스를 인수하는 것은 오라클을 견제하고, 모바일 시장을 선도하려는 의지가 담겨 있다고 보입니다.
SAP 의 사이베이스 인수가 오라클 견제용이라는 것은 쉽게 예상할 수 있습니다. 오라클이 강력한 DBMS 시장 점유율을 무기로 SAP의 텃밭인 전사적자원관리(ERP) 시장을 자꾸 넘보고 있었으니까요. SAP ERP를 도입한 고객사가 사용하는 DBMS는 대부분 오라클입니다. SAP가 불안감을 가질 수 밖에 없는 상황입니다.
그러나 이젠 SAP에도 사이베이스라는 무기가 생겼으니 자사이 고객들이 오라클 DB보다는 사이베이스를 이용하도록 전략을 세울 것입니다.
SAP가 사이베이스 DBMS와 SAP ERP는 밀착될 것이고, 사이베이스 데이터웨어하우스와 SAP 비즈니스인텔리전스 솔루션이 점점 통합될 것으로 보입니다.
SAP는 ERP 시장에서의 강력한 리더십을 DBMS 시장까지 확장하려는 노력을 할 것입니다. 오라클이 DBMS 시장의 강력함을 ERP 시장에까지 전파하려 한 것처럼 말입니다.
SAP가 사이베이스를 인수한 또 하나의 목적은 ‘모바일’입니다. 스마트폰이 인기를 끌면서 모바일 비즈니스가 주목을 받고 있는데, 사이베이스는 오래전부터 모바일 시장의 가능성을 높게 보고 투자를 진행해 왔습니다.
지난 몇 년 동안 DBMS 시장에서 경쟁력을 잃어온 사이베이스가 모바일 시장에서 그 돌파구를 찾으려 한 것입니다. 사이베이스는 ‘언와이어드 엔터프라이즈’라는 비전을 세우고 각종 솔루션을 개발해 왔습니다.
그 결과 SAP와 사이베이스는 지난 3월 이미 모바일 분야에서의 협력을 다짐한 바 있습니다. 두 회사는 모바일 근무자가 아이폰과 윈도 모바일을 이용해 주요 비즈니스 및 고객관계관리(CRM)을 수행하도록 하는 솔루션을 발표했습니다.
한 국사이베이스는 모바일 엔터프라이즈 애플리케이션 개발을 위한 사이베이스 언와이어드 플랫폼(SUP), 모바일 디바이스 관리 솔루션 아파리아(AFARIA)’, 기업 내 그룹웨어나 ERP, CRM, SCM 등 백엔드 시스템을 모바일 단말기에서 활용할 수 있도록 지원하는‘아이애니웨어 모바일 오피스(iAnywhere Mobile Office) 등의 제품을 보유하고 있습니다.
이를 통해 SAP는 CRM 및 SAP 비즈니스 스위트 애플리케이션을 모바일로 확장할 수 있습니다. 사이베이스는 SAP 애플리케이션을 모바일이라는 블루오션으로 안내하는 선박이라고나 할까요?
이 처럼 SAP가 사이베이스를 통해 얻을 수 있는 혜택은 분명합니다. 인수금액인 58억 달러가 다소 과도한 감은 있지만, SAP가 비즈니스오브젝트를 67억8천만 달러라는 어마어마한 금액을 주고 인수한 경력이 있다는 점을 감안하면 크게 부담될 정도는 아닐 것입니다.
문제는 SAP가 사이베이스를 어떻게 활용할 것이냐가 될 것입니다. SAP는 오라클처럼 인수합병을 많이 경험한 회사가 아니기 때문에 통합과정에서 잡음이 날 수도 있습니다. 또 사이베이스의 DBMS 제품 및 기술이 시대를 선도해 온 것이 아닙니다. 이 제품과 기술을 오라클과 경쟁할 수준으로 끌어올려야 하는 것은 SAP의 숙제입니다.

한국사이베이스가 모빌리티, 리얼타임 BI(Business Intelligence) 시장을 겨냥한 관리 인프라를 제시하고 시장공략에 나선다.
사이베이스는 최근 스마트폰 확장 추세에 발맞춰 기업 데이터를 모바일 기기로 확장 사용하면서 우려되는 보안 및 관리를 위해 '아파리아'와 '모바일 오피스'를 내놓고 시장 대응에 나서고 있다. 또 글로벌 경영위기로 도래된 리스크 관리 관점에서 실시간 분석을 위한 RDW(Real-time DW) 솔루션을 출시했다.
지난 94년부터 모바일 데이터베이스 시장에 진출한 바 있는 사이베이스는 그동안의 경험을 통해 몇 가지 모바일 관리 포인트를 제시했다.
△모바일 협업을 위한 e메일싱크/푸시, 그룹웨어 포탈의 모바일 전환 △레거시 시스템에 대한 모바일 디바이스 연계 △새로운 컨셉의 모바일 애플리케이션 △기존 윈도우 외에 심비안, 블랙베리, 안드로이드 등 모바일 디바이스에 대한 업무용 전환 솔루션 개발 △디바이스 관리 및 보안 등이다.
사이베이스의 서원설 부장은 "이를 충족시키기 위해 관리자들은 다양한 레거시 연계 서비스 지원 및 개발자 개발경험 활용방안, 개발의 신속성, 애플리케이션 배포관리, 분실에 따른 데이터 삭제 및 백업, 관리 통합, 모니터링, 어드민 운영환경 지원, 데이터 암호화와 접근제어, 보안 업데이트를 고민할 수밖에 없다"고 지적했다.
그는 또 "현재의 복수 애플리케이션이 상존해 있는 경우, 기존의 개발 방법만으론 지원이 어렵다"며 "새로운 관리정책이 필요하며, 전체적인 자동화와 운영환경을 고려해야 한다"고 설명했다.
사이베이스의 아파리아는 이런 모바일기기관리 및 보안의 문제점을 보완해 줄 수 있다.
아파리아는 단일 콘솔 기반의 모바일 디바이스 관리 및 보안 기능을 제공하며, 원격 무선환경과 복잡한 데이터 이동을 원활하게 해준다.
또한 원격 디바이스에 대한 데이터 이동 및 관리업무 프로세스 자동화 기능을 제공하며 통합관리 기능도 보유하고 있다.
사이베이스는 또한 리얼타임 BI 시장을 겨냥한 새로운 제품을 선보였다. 금융위기 이후 방어적 투자와 리스크관리로 초점이 맞춰지고 있는 경영환경에서 실시간 분석은 중요한 과제가 되고 있다. 사이베이스의 RAP(Real-time Analytic Platform)은 실시간 데이터와 히스토리 데이터, 다년간의 시계열 시장 데이터, 트레이딩 히스토리 및 레퍼런스 데이터 등의 빠른 분석이 가능해 진다.
한국사이베이 스의 서원설 부장은 "리얼타임 데이터 영역은 특히 증권분야에서 초당 100만건에서 200만건에 대한 데이터처리가 요구되고 있다"며 "이를 해소하기 위해 RAP와 CEP엔진으로 리얼타임 시장을 응대하고 있다"고 설명했다.
